Vicky Pryce convicted over speeding poins scam

Vicky Pryce, a former senior government economist and ex-wife of disgraced MP Chris Huhne, was today found guilty of perverting the course of justice by taking speeding points for him nearly ten years ago. A jury at Southwark Crown Court found her guilty after hearing that she had lied about her campaign to discredit her husband after he’d had an affair.

It turns out that taking someone else’s speeding points isn’t all that rare. Research suggests that around 300,000 have accepted speeding points on their licence after someone they know was caught speeding. When someone already has so many points on their licence that extra ones would disqualify them from driving they’re often prepared to go to desperate lengths to get rid of them. The attached charge of perverting the course of justice is a serious criminal offence and can result in a prison sentence.

According to The Independent ‘Huhne, 58, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and resigned as the MP for Eastleigh, ending a career which had seen him part of the coalition negotiation team and one-time tip as leader of the Liberal Democrats. The plot was revealed only after the break-up of the couple’s 26 year marriage when Price sought to “nail” him after he announced he was leaving her for an aide, Carina Trimingham’.
